In honor of Emily Dickinson, 12/10/1830-5/15/1886, for all the beautiful poetry she produced in her short life.
A few of my favorites are “There’s a certain Slant of light” , “The Soul selects her own Society” and “I’m Nobody.”

Today’s entry is from a short novel by Ernest Hemingway. Read more about Papa Hemingway’s life and work here and here.
The Old Man and the Sea was published in 1952, just before Hemingway was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1954, with specific mention of his narrative mastery as exemplified in this novel. He was also awarded a Pulitzer Prize in 1953 for this novel.
The title tells more than enough of what the story is about. The first sentence:
“He was an old man who fished alone in a skiff in the Gulf Stream and he had gone eighty-four days now without taking a fish.”
And the last:
“The old man was dreaming about the lions.”
Definitely worth a read or a re-read.
